For those of you who have never worked in the service industry I urge you to continue reading this post. For those of you who have worked in the service industry then you’ll most likely know what I’m talking about. Theres nothing worse than obnoxious customers that you are required to deal with, so here I’m writing how to avoid being the worst customer ever. The tips below will provide you with proper etiquette when going out. It relates to either going to a restaurant for a nice meal or going to destroy your liver at a bar. These are the top 3 things you should never do as a customer.
1.) One and done. This is the customer (mostly in a bar scene) that orders from you and tips you on that one drink alone. All orders after that first drink order the customer believes that they don’t have to tip you because they already did the first time. Do these customers realize that the bartenders/servers are doing the same amount of work they did the first time? Just because you tip on one drink order does not mean you don’t tip on future orders. If this is you do yourself a favor and keep a tab open so you can tip on ALL of the drinks when you receive your bill.
2.) Discounted prices should not mean a lower tip amount. In-fact it should be the opposite really. You’re already receiving a discounted price, that does not mean the bartender/server are doing less work. The tip should be based on the bill before the discount is applied, and of course how your service was.
3.) Don’t base the tip around trying to make the total amount even. People literally will tip .25 cents just to make the total amount even. Nothing makes me more mad than this. Either fix your OCD or don’t even bother tipping at all.
